We had heard a lot of buzz about a new cinema in Bahria over the past few weeks so a couple of days ago we decided to visit Bahria Cinegold Plex cinema and restaurant .

Upon entering, we were welcomed by a royal, rich textured sitting area with swaying chandeliers. It looked amazing at night. Moving on, ahead of this there was a huge snack area flashing their best snacks giving you an instant craving for that crunch. We, habitually, bought a large mixed pop-corn (Yes we like to mix the caramelized and the salty ones). We were surprised to know that we won’t have to wait in line for our order, instead, they guided us to the one of the movie halls.

We’d like to mention that if you are a movie buff as we are, you’d be amazed by the video quality, the crispness of the sound, the comfortable seats and the fact that our order was served right on our seats. Cinegold Plex has two different cinema lounges: 1) Gold & 2) Red which serve the customers comfortability as per their demand.  In addition, the Gold lounge offers VIP Box with recliners you can literally bury yourself in. A very pleasant environment was maintained throughout the movie, full of laughs and giggles as ‘Parchi’ came to its end.

History
·       Silent era (1929-1946)

·       Independence and growth (1947–1958)

Named Nigar Awards, the event is since then considered Pakistan's premier grant event celebrating outstanding performance in numerous classes of filmmaking.

The Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Cinema that was closed down on October twenty seven for ‘security reasons’, did not open on weekday, the regular day of re-opening.
The Cinema, that was set to screen 3D shows from weekday, was issued a notice by the Defense Housing Authority on October 27 to shut down with ‘immediate effect’ for ‘security concerns’.
The notice asked the DHA Cinema management, Kandivali Entertainment, to keep the cinema closed till October 30.

I have always been a fan of Ranbir Kapoor as an actor who delivers whatever role he is required of. TAMASHA revolves around a young man living in the world of stories and himself is a great story teller, but as per society norms he is required to play the role of an average product manager. While Deepika comes in as someone who knows what he really is and makes him realize too. The story is old but the execution and unfolding of the story with some beautiful locations and different music makes it a delight to watch. So if you are looking forward to see some different movie this weekend, this is the one for you.

While Nishat Cinema Pakistan’s industry lost its golden goose

It seems that only our grandparents will now remember why Karachi was christened the City of Lights. The beautifully adorned billboards on main Bandar Road and Keamari were once decorated with larger than life posters of film stars; the fairy lights around the borders were part of the panorama that earned Karachi its quintessential name.
It has been a protracted time since the previous cinemas of town were that refulgent. After the hustle and bustle at Karachi’s old movie theatres died down gradually over the years, last Friday they were torched to ashes by unruly crowds.
While Nishat Cinema was the primary, cinemas patrician, Capri and Bambino soon became household names. Widely popular films including the Urdu rendition of Guns of Navarone as Noorudin ki Bandooq were screened in these theatres. “I saw the most effective Pakistani and Hollywood films at Nishat,” remembers seasoned film and television actor, Behroze Sabzwari. “It was far and away the most effective cinema in Pakistan till black Friday,” he adds regretfully.
In the recent past, when Cineplex opened at Sea View and began to create a class divide by allowing couples and families only, Nishat remained the only ray of hope for the awaam of Karachi.
“Nishat was one in every of the oldest cinema in Pakistan, but it was its class and peoples’ emotional attachment to it which helped it survive when other cinemas were demolished,” says Rashid Khawaja, the President of the United Producers Association in Pakistan.
“With Nishat and its near  cinemas being torched to death, no cinema survives to cater to the needs of the common man, no more films will be made and cinema will now become an elitist medium,” adds Khawaja.
From families to teams of young boys, crowds flocked to Nishat for entertainment. Whether it was for Shahrukh Khan starrer Billo Barber, Shoaib Mansoor’s Khuda Kay Liye or a film such as The Son of Pakistan, there would always be a bustle at the ticket office.
Film-maker Shehzad Rafique wrote concerning his emotional attachment to Nishat Cinema on Facebook. “This place gave me recognition and respect as my films like Nikkah, Rukhsati, Mohabbatan Sachiyan and Salakhain were released here and turned out to be big hits.”
Javed sheik, a well known name in the Pakistani film industry, used to live near Nishat Cinema. He says that last Friday’s destruction was a massive loss. “Even before I had entered the industry, Nishat was an integral part of my childhood. I was lucky enough to measure within the plaza right opposite thereto,” he recalls.
“Chief Saab did record business and reigned for thirty consecutive weeks in Pakistan, with the foremost revenue commencing of Nishat. The government has earned so much from cinemas like Nishat, that now they will have to pay back for its losses,” says Sheikh.
Film-makers and cinema owners may mourn the loss of a piece of Pakistan’s history, but only time will tell whether a vacuum this big can be filled.

Lahore’s once pristine cinemas are rotting away and falling apart. This tragedy is well known, yet few have taken any initiative on this front. Last spring, the team behind Super Cinema decided to try something that others had yet to do — revamp a classically built cinema so that it could cater to a wider range of cinema-goers. Following the completion of the project, Shabistan Theatre became the first old cinema on Lahore’s famous Abbot Road to be fully refurbished. While the façade has been restored to its former glory, the interior now boasts state-of-the-art technology and a greater audience capacity. With the screening of Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, the old Shabistan theatre was now officially Super Cinema.
“We took over the operations of Shabistan and revamped it with a state-of-the-art digital system, which includes 3D; almost close to IMAX. It has one among the simplest projectors within the world, along with a huge screen about 45 feet,” says Imran Idris Mufti, the director of Super Cinema and Summit Entertainment Pakistan.
The new Shabistan Super Cinema has been place along exceptionally well, and routinely fills its auditorium. The result has been a dramatic shift in metropolis for each cinema-goers and Pakistan’s native film distributors. Dominated by only one or two major players over the last few years, the growth in multiplexes has been shaken up by the introduction of Summit Entertainment’s Super Cinema. In a span of 2 years, Super Cinema has additional fifteen new cinema screens to town and plans to continue increasing.
These plans were complemented with another adventure on Mufti’s part, to develop the first cinema inside a mall on MM Alam Road. This multiplex screen, which has already started to accommodate private screenings, is the first of its kind in Lahore. Basing this decision on the American concept of making cinema part of the shopping experience, Mufti says that it will give easy access to people in Gulberg who are looking to catch a movie while out shopping.
“It gives you multiple facilities under one roof, you can go shop, have a good time, and have food. The view is amazing, we have three screens there, and a gold cinema with VIP services,” says Mufti.
Now, with an infrastructure of a growing number of multiplex screens firmly in place, the next frontier is an expansion of the film distribution options in Lahore. Summit Entertainment has already started to import foreign films, such as Rush and Once upon a time in Mumbai Dobaara, and are quietly getting involved with local movies as well.
“We are picking up Pakistani movies. This wave that has sort of taken place, where there is improved Pakistani content, we want to be a part of that as well,” says Mufti.

“I think things have changed for the better, people are starting to come back to cinemas but when you talk about Pakistan and numbers, I feel even a hundred screens for Lahore would not be enough. The potential is a lot and growth and competition will be a good thing.
